Ham Radio in Hawaii

Hawaii is a great place for Ham Radio. If you are using NVIS, your signal easily covers the entire state.
We are fortunate to have an Ionosoned located in the middle of the state with gives us propagation updates every 7.5 minutes.
DX in all directions when the bands are open, and special frequency allocations on 40 meters also make Ham Radio a very enjoyable hobby here in Hawaii!

If you are visiting, bring your mobile hf rig and a 40 meter dipole or short end-fed antenna, and join the 40 meter nets.
A horizontal antenna does not have to be much higher than 10 or 15 feet to operate NVIS.
Vertical antennas do not work well for NVIS, but you might work some interesting dx!
Handheld VHF and UHF radios may be useful, particularly on Oahu. DMR repeaters are available in many locations, too.
